| Glazing
is a vital component of any building. But what can be done if it is
damaged and spoils the appearance of a prestige development?
This was the dilemma at Salford Quays, Manchester, when the building surveyors were called in to advise the owners. A reaction had taken place on the surface of the mirrored glazing on the spandrel panels, leaving unsightly stains and discoloration on the surface. Window films were considered as a way of covering up the blemishes, but one was needed that was suitable for the external use and could withstand the rigours of the British climate. The problem was solved by installing a specially produced film from Madico containing Kynar® polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) resin coating. Kynar® is the same type of surface finish which has been used to protect metal-clad structures and curtain-walled buildings worldwide for years.
| A
specially tinted version of the film with a reflective finish was supplied
which effectively shielded the blemished from view and enhanced the
overall appearance of the building.
